When Jon Reider was just three years old, his mother passed away. Her name was never spoken, and memories of her were kept hidden. As Jon grew up, he was left to make sense of his grief on his own — a silence that shaped his life. Years later, he turned that pain into purpose. He founded Myra’s Kids Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that no child has to grieve alone. What started as a personal promise became a life-changing mission — one that gives children and families a safe place to heal, remember, and connect. Today, Vee is proud to help Myra’s Kids share their story with the world.
Healing Hearts, One Camp at a Time
The cornerstone of Myra’s Kids Foundation is its four-day overnight camp, offered completely free of charge for 80 children each year. The camp brings together children who have lost a parent or sibling and surrounds them with caring volunteers, grief professionals, and peers who truly understand what they’re going through. From Thursday to Sunday, every detail — the meals, activities, and programming — is designed to give children the tools to process loss, rediscover joy, and build friendships that last long after camp ends. As Jon explains, “It’s expensive to operate a four-day camp for 80 children. But it’s the most important thing we do — because those four days can change a child’s life.”
Support That Lasts All Year
The healing doesn’t end at camp. Myra’s Kids hosts monthly family programs that bring the community together throughout the year:
September: Camp reunions to reconnect and reflect.
October: A Halloween-themed event focused on fun and inclusion.
November: Programming for Children’s Grief Awareness Month, including school visits that teach kids how to support grieving peers.
December: A holiday celebration embracing all traditions, filled with gifts, laughter, and love.
February–June: Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day programs honouring loved ones who have passed.
Every event reminds families that they are not alone — and that healing happens together.
Finding the Right Words: How Vee Helped Myra’s Kids Tell Their Story
When it came time to share their mission online, Jon faced a new challenge: how do you communicate something as sensitive as grief through social media? “You can’t post ‘Camp starts in two weeks, are you excited?’ when your camp is for grieving children,” Jon says. “It takes a deep understanding of the organization’s heart to get the message right.” That’s where Vee stepped in. With Maggie, Vee’s AI-powered social media teammate for nonprofits, Myra’s Kids found a way to express empathy and authenticity across every post. Maggie learned the organization’s tone, designed thoughtful visuals, and helped translate their compassion into meaningful content that resonated with families and supporters alike. “The messaging that’s coming out from Vee in our social media now is unbelievable,” Jon shares. “It’s heartwarming, it’s touching… it fits Myra’s Kids perfectly.”
